BA Dance and Drama
About this course
Dance and Drama is a combination that brings together two performance disciplines each concerned with the body, presence, and expression as means of artistic communication. Dance develops physical technique, choreographic thinking, and the ability to create and interpret movement as a form of art and meaning-making. Drama explores character, narrative, and the theatrical craft of creating and inhabiting roles, directing scenes, and understanding the history and theory of performance. Together, they develop practitioners who are versatile, physically intelligent, and artistically ambitious. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme develops excellence in both dance and drama, with the dance element focused on performance and choreographic practices that build an adaptable, reflective, and independent dance artist. You will foster creativity, develop your signature practice, and engage with a diverse range of techniques and theories across both disciplines. The programme includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placements, giving you the opportunity to develop your practice in professional and international contexts before you graduate. The year abroad is particularly valuable in performing arts, where exposure to different performance traditions and cultural approaches to the body and narrative significantly enriches your artistic development. Graduates go on to careers as performers, choreographers, directors, drama teachers, dance practitioners, community arts workers, arts administrators, and movement coaches. The combination of dance and drama is particularly valued in educational settings, where practitioners who can work across both physical and theatrical modes are sought after. Many graduates also work in fitness, health and wellbeing, and therapeutic arts contexts where movement and embodied practice are central. Postgraduate study in dance, theatre-making, choreography, or arts education is a route for those who wish to develop their practice or move into research or specialist professional roles.
