BA Criminal and Corporate Investigation
About this course
Criminal and corporate investigation is a discipline that sits at the intersection of law, intelligence, finance, and security, concerned with how investigations are conducted professionally in both criminal justice and commercial contexts. Investigations arise in many settings: police and law enforcement agencies investigate crime; regulatory bodies investigate fraud, tax evasion, and financial misconduct; corporations investigate internal wrongdoing, security breaches, and compliance failures; and private sector investigators work across a range of civil and commercial matters. What all of these contexts share is the requirement for legally sound procedures, systematic evidence gathering, analytical rigour, and the ability to present findings that will withstand scrutiny. At Northampton this three-year full-time degree has been developed in partnership with professionals from investigation, intelligence, security, and financial sectors, ensuring the curriculum reflects what practitioners actually need. You will develop both the legal knowledge and the investigative skills required to conduct professional investigations across commercial, public, and criminal justice settings. This includes understanding how to establish and secure admissible evidence, how to apply intelligence analysis techniques, and how to operate within the legal frameworks that govern investigation in the UK. Graduates move into careers in law enforcement support roles, corporate security and fraud investigation, financial intelligence, regulatory compliance, insurance investigation, private investigation, and intelligence analysis. The combination of legal knowledge and practical investigative training is directly relevant to these fields and distinguishes graduates from those with purely academic qualifications. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study or professional training in areas such as financial crime or counter-fraud.
