About this course

Creative writing and global philosophy and worldviews is a combination that connects two disciplines both concerned with how human beings make meaning. Creative writing explores the craft of giving experience form through language, whether in fiction, poetry, drama, screenwriting, or non-fiction, and asks how writers can create something that resonates with readers and endures beyond its moment of composition. Global philosophy and worldviews takes a genuinely world-spanning approach to the biggest questions about truth, value, ethics, and human existence, drawing not only on the Western philosophical tradition but on African philosophy, Chinese thought, Hindu philosophy, Islamic political thought, Jewish existentialism, Buddhist mysticism, and the many other traditions that continue to evolve and shape the modern world. At Liverpool Hope this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience. The creative writing component develops your voice, your technical range, and your ability to read and revise your own work with the same rigour you bring to the work of others. The global philosophy and worldviews component opens the intellectual landscape in which all serious creative work exists, examining the traditions and frameworks through which human beings have made sense of existence across cultures and centuries. The combination is particularly rich for writers who want to engage with a diverse world and with questions that go beyond the conventions of a single cultural tradition. Graduates find careers in writing, publishing, journalism, education, the cultural sector, broadcasting, international organisations, and the voluntary sector. The combination of creative skill and philosophical breadth is valuable in any field requiring clear communication, ethical reasoning, and the ability to engage respectfully and knowledgeably with different worldviews. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in creative writing, philosophy, global ethics, or related fields, or develop careers that combine writing practice with teaching, community engagement, or advocacy.
