MEng Computing Science (Artificial Intelligence)
About this course
Artificial intelligence has moved from a specialised research area to one of the defining technologies of our time, and computing science degrees with a dedicated AI focus are among the most in-demand in higher education. At the University of Aberdeen, this five-year full-time integrated master's programme combines a four-year BSc in computing science with an additional year of postgraduate-level study, allowing you to develop deep expertise in AI within a single coherent programme rather than returning for a separate master's degree. A year abroad is built into the structure, giving you the experience of studying at a partner institution and the intellectual and personal benefits that brings. You will build a strong foundation in programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering and the mathematical underpinning of computing before specialising progressively in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, knowledge representation and reasoning, and the ethical and societal dimensions of AI. The integrated master's year deepens your ability to engage with research-level problems and to apply AI methods to complex real-world challenges. Aberdeen's computing science department has research strengths in AI and related areas, and the programme benefits from that active research environment. A typical tariff of around 168 points is expected for entry. Graduates are exceptionally well placed in the current labour market. Roles in machine learning engineering, AI research, data science, software development, natural language processing and autonomous systems are all within reach, across sectors including technology, finance, healthcare, energy and defence. The integrated master's qualification is also well recognised for those wishing to proceed to doctoral research, and Aberdeen graduates pursue PhD programmes at leading institutions in the UK and internationally.
