MSci Chemistry with Molecular Physics
About this course
Chemistry with molecular physics sits at one of the most productive boundaries in the physical sciences, where the mathematical language of physics meets the molecular complexity of chemistry. Molecular physics concerns the structure, properties, and dynamics of molecules at a fundamental level, using quantum mechanics and spectroscopy to understand how molecules form, interact, and react. Chemistry provides the broader framework of molecular synthesis, reactivity, and the transformation of matter. Together, they offer a particularly deep account of the physical and chemical world at the molecular scale. At Imperial College London, this four-year, full-time programme is designed for students who enjoy the intersection of chemistry, mathematics, and physics, and want to develop expertise across all three. You will study organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry alongside quantum mechanics, spectroscopy, computational chemistry, and the mathematical methods that underpin molecular physics. Imperial's research environment across chemistry and physics is internationally recognised, and you will study in a department where the boundaries between disciplines are actively explored and where advanced laboratory and computational facilities support both teaching and research. The programme develops your ability to apply quantitative reasoning to complex molecular problems and to move between theoretical frameworks and experimental evidence. Graduates of chemistry with molecular physics from Imperial are equipped for careers in research and development in the pharmaceutical, materials, and chemical industries, as well as in academic research, scientific consultancy, and the growing fields of computational chemistry and molecular simulation. Many graduates proceed to doctoral study in chemistry, physics, or closely related areas, and the strong quantitative foundation the degree provides is also valued in data science, technology, and finance. For those who are drawn to understanding matter at its most fundamental level, this programme provides an exceptionally rigorous and research-grounded education.
