MA Celtic & Anglo Saxon Studies and Spanish & Latin American Studies (4yrs)
About this course
Celtic and Anglo-Saxon studies combined with Spanish and Latin American studies is a degree of genuine historical and contemporary breadth. Celtic and Anglo-Saxon studies examines the languages, literatures, and cultures of the early medieval peoples who shaped Britain and Ireland, including the Celts, Anglo-Saxons, and Norse, situating their achievements within the wider European historical and cultural context. Spanish and Latin American studies connects you to one of the world's major living languages and to the diverse and dynamic cultures of Spain and Latin America, some of the most globally significant regions of the twenty-first century. At the University of Aberdeen, this four-year full-time programme takes your exploration of the lives and legacy of the Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, and Scandinavian peoples and places it within a European historical frame, enriched by the study of Spanish and its use in Spain and Latin America. You will engage with primary sources in early languages alongside Spanish language development and Latin American cultural study. The degree includes a year abroad, which provides the opportunity to develop your Spanish language skills in an immersive environment. The typical entry tariff is 168 UCAS points. Graduates of this distinctive combination are well placed for careers in the arts, broadcasting, heritage management, education, journalism, and the cultural sector, as well as roles in business and tourism where international reach and cultural literacy matter. The combination of deep historical knowledge about early Britain and Ireland and contemporary language competence in Spanish is unusual and genuinely distinctive in the job market. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in Celtic studies, Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, or Latin American studies, and the degree provides a strong foundation for doctoral research in any of these areas.
