MA Business with Human Resource Management
About this course
Business with human resource management addresses two deeply related aspects of organisational life. Business management develops the analytical, strategic, and operational capabilities to understand how organisations work and how they create value. Human resource management focuses specifically on the most complex and consequential of all organisational resources: people. HRM encompasses recruitment and selection, training and development, employment law, performance management, diversity and inclusion, and employee wellbeing, and it recognises that the way organisations treat and develop their people is one of the most significant determinants of their success. At the University of Edinburgh, this four-year, full-time programme develops business and human resource management as genuinely integrated fields of study. Edinburgh Business School is one of the leading business schools in the UK, with a strong research base and close connections to the professional world, and you will benefit from both the intellectual rigour and the professional networks that it provides. You will study the core disciplines of business, including strategy, finance, marketing, and operations, alongside a deepening focus on the theory and practice of HRM, from organisational behaviour and employment relations to talent management and the changing nature of work. The programme develops critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and the ability to apply management concepts to real organisational problems. This full-time programme runs over four years and includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to experience business education in a different international context and to develop the global perspective that employers increasingly value. Graduates go on to careers in human resources, people management, organisational development, talent acquisition, business consulting, and general management, across private, public, and third sector organisations. Many also pursue professional qualifications in HR management following graduation. The combination of business breadth and HR specialism makes for a versatile and professionally well-positioned degree.
