BA Business Studies and Law
About this course
Business studies and law is a combination that addresses two disciplines that are, in practice, inseparable. Every significant business decision has legal dimensions, whether in contract, employment, regulation, intellectual property, or corporate governance, and understanding both the business context and the legal framework in which decisions are made gives you a perspective that is genuinely valuable in a wide range of professional careers. At the University of Stirling, this four-year, full-time programme develops your understanding of how businesses operate, how strategies are formed, and how commercial decisions are made, alongside a serious engagement with the principles and practice of law. You will study business management, marketing, finance, and strategy alongside the core areas of Scots and commercial law, developing both the commercial awareness that business careers require and the legal literacy that an understanding of the regulatory environment demands. A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to study business and law in another national context, which is particularly valuable for those who wish to pursue careers with an international dimension. Graduates are well-placed for a wide range of careers. Those who wish to pursue a legal career can proceed to professional qualification in Scotland or England and Wales. Others move into careers in commercial management, compliance, contract management, human resources, financial services, and business consultancy, where the combination of business knowledge and legal understanding is directly relevant. Many also continue to postgraduate study in law, business, or a specialist area such as commercial law, employment law, or corporate governance.
