MA Business & Management/ Spanish
About this course
Business and management combined with Spanish creates a degree that is practically powerful as well as intellectually broad. Spanish is now the second most widely spoken language in the world by native speakers, with hundreds of millions of first-language speakers across Spain, Latin America, the United States and beyond. Businesses with ambitions in any of those markets gain a significant advantage from genuine linguistic and cultural fluency. Management study provides the theoretical and practical grounding in how organisations function: their strategy, finance, marketing, operations, human behaviour and governance. This five-year full-time degree at the University of Glasgow includes a sandwich year with a work placement and gives you immersive experience alongside your academic study. The programme offers a structured insight into both the theoretical and practical dimensions of organisations and management, passing business thinking through the filter of real-world application. Your Spanish will develop to a high level, enabling you to operate professionally in Spanish-speaking business contexts and to engage with the literature, culture and society of the Spanish-speaking world. You will study management across its core functional areas while developing the intercultural competence and linguistic confidence that international business demands. Graduates are well positioned for careers in international business, consultancy, finance, marketing, logistics, trade and supply chain management across Spanish-speaking markets and in multinational organisations. The combination of business expertise and Spanish language proficiency is sought by employers in sectors ranging from banking and financial services to FMCG, media, public sector and the third sector. Many graduates also pursue careers in translation, international relations, education or the diplomatic and consular services. Further study in international business, management or Hispanic studies is an option for those wishing to develop deeper expertise.
