BA Business Management for the Creative Industries (Games)
About this course
Business management for the creative industries, with a focus on games, is a degree that takes one of the world's most dynamic and commercially significant entertainment sectors seriously as a site of business activity. The games industry generates more revenue globally than film and music combined, and it requires professionals who understand both the creative and cultural dimensions of games and the commercial, strategic, and operational realities of running companies within a fast-moving market. At Teesside University, this three-year full-time programme develops a holistic understanding of the games industry alongside substantive business management skills. You will study the economics and structure of the games sector, digital distribution, intellectual property, audience analysis, project management, and the emerging circular economy and the business opportunities it presents. You will develop your own business idea and create a venture with social impact, engaging with questions of user experience and user interface design and learning to apply digital tools to real creative business challenges. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement, giving you a varied and internationally informed range of professional experience before you graduate. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates go on to careers in games production management, games marketing, business development, publishing, digital distribution, and creative industry consulting. The combination of sector knowledge and business competence is also valuable in adjacent creative industries, including film, music, and digital media. Further study options include postgraduate programmes in creative industries management, digital media, and business administration.
