BA Business Management and Marketing (including a Foundation Year)
About this course
Business management and marketing are disciplines that work closely together in practice, and studying them jointly gives you a thorough grounding in how organisations function alongside a focused understanding of how they reach and engage their customers. Management draws on economics, organisational behaviour, strategy, finance and operations to ask how businesses are led and how they sustain competitive advantage. Marketing brings consumer psychology, brand theory, market research, digital channels and communication strategy into the picture. Together they prepare you to think about organisations from both an internal and an external perspective. This four-year degree at the University of Chester includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in a different national and cultural context and to develop an international outlook on business practice. The programme includes a foundation year designed to develop the academic skills and business awareness that underpin the rest of the degree, making it well suited to students who want a structured introduction before progressing into the main course. Throughout your studies you will engage with contemporary business challenges, including questions of sustainability, digital transformation, consumer behaviour and global markets, and you will develop the practical and analytical capabilities that employers in business and marketing roles actively look for. Graduates are well prepared for careers in marketing management, brand management, communications, digital marketing, business development, consultancy, retail management and entrepreneurship. The broad business knowledge you gain also opens paths into general management, human resources, operations and supply chain roles. Further study at postgraduate level, including MBA programmes or specialist master's degrees in marketing or management, is a common route for those who want to deepen their expertise or move into senior roles more quickly.
