BSc Business Finance and Economics with a Year Abroad
About this course
Business finance and economics is a combination that gives you the tools to understand both how organisations manage money and how the broader economic environment shapes the conditions in which those organisations operate. Business finance focuses on the financial management of firms, covering topics such as corporate finance, investment appraisal, financial markets, risk management, and the analysis of financial statements. Economics provides the macroeconomic and microeconomic frameworks that explain how markets work, how prices are determined, how policy affects output and employment, and how international trade and finance link national economies together. At the University of East Anglia, this programme is offered as Business Finance and Economics with a Year Abroad, extending the degree to four years of full-time study. The year abroad gives you the opportunity to study in a different country and academic environment, gaining international experience and perspective that is increasingly valuable in a globalised economy and in careers that require engagement with international markets and institutions. You will cover core areas of economics and corporate finance alongside quantitative methods, financial analysis, business strategy, and international economics, developing both the theoretical understanding and the analytical skills that employers in finance, business, and economics-related roles consistently seek. UEA has a strong economics department with good employer connections and a focus on applied and empirically grounded teaching. Graduates from this programme go on to careers in banking and financial services, corporate finance, management consultancy, economic analysis, the civil service, international organisations, and a wide range of roles in business where financial and economic literacy is essential. The year abroad gives graduates a competitive advantage and is particularly valued by international employers and organisations. Some graduates continue to postgraduate study in finance, economics, or business.
