BSc Business Computing
About this course
Business computing sits at the point where commercial thinking meets technological capability. It is concerned not with programming as an end in itself but with the application of computing in real business and organisational contexts: understanding how technology shapes organisations, how digital solutions are designed and implemented to solve commercial problems, and how data, systems, and software can be deployed to create value. In a world where every business is now in some sense a technology business, this combination of commercial and technical knowledge is increasingly important. At the University of Northampton, this three-year full-time BSc (Hons) approaches computing from a professional perspective, exploring the design, implementation, and application of technical solutions to industry's challenges. You will develop skills in systems analysis, software development, data management, and project management alongside an understanding of business strategy, organisational behaviour, and the commercial context in which technology decisions are made. The programme develops your ability to think practically about technical problems and to communicate solutions clearly to non-technical audiences. Entry typically requires around 88 UCAS tariff points. Graduates work in technology management, systems analysis, IT consultancy, project management, business analysis, and a wide range of roles in organisations where digital capability and commercial understanding are both required. The degree is also a strong preparation for further study in computer science, information systems, or business, or for professional certifications in areas such as project management or cloud computing.
