BA Business and Management with Placement
About this course
Business and management is a versatile and demanding discipline that prepares you to understand and contribute to the complex organisations that shape economic and social life. It draws on economics, strategy, finance, marketing, operations, human resource management and organisational behaviour to examine how enterprises are created, led and sustained, developing the analytical capabilities and practical skills that employers in business and the public and voluntary sectors consistently seek. Studying business and management at degree level develops not just domain knowledge but a way of thinking about organisations and the environments they operate in that is valuable across a lifetime of work. At the University of Gloucestershire this four-year, full-time programme includes a year-long industry placement, built into the degree structure, that gives you direct experience of applying your business knowledge and problem-solving skills to live projects in real organisations. This placement year is a significant career advantage, demonstrating to future employers that you have operated in a professional business environment, built networks and delivered results. You will study strategy, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, human resource management, operations, business analytics and the changing business environment, developing both technical knowledge and the professional confidence to operate effectively in commercial settings. Graduates pursue careers across virtually every sector in roles including management, marketing, finance, human resources, operations, consulting, business development and entrepreneurship. Graduate training schemes in major companies, the civil service fast stream, start-up ventures and roles in the rapidly growing digital and technology sector are all routes taken by business graduates. The placement year makes Gloucestershire graduates particularly attractive to employers who value practical experience alongside academic credentials. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in business administration, finance, marketing or a related field.
