Biochemistry is the chemistry of life: the science that examines the molecular processes by which living organisms grow, maintain themselves, communicate, and reproduce. It investigates the structures and functions of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids, and the metabolic pathways and signalling cascades through which those molecules interact to sustain biological activity. At the University of Salford, this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year that provides a supported entry route for students who do not meet the direct entry requirements for the honours degree.
