Art history and psychology make an enriching combination because both disciplines are ultimately concerned with how human beings perceive, interpret and make meaning. Art history asks why visual and material culture appears as it does, examining the historical, social, economic and ideological forces that shape what artists make and how audiences respond. Psychology investigates the mental processes underlying perception, memory, emotion, behaviour and social interaction, using experimental and theoretical methods to understand the mind and the behaviour it produces.
