MSci Applied Pharmaceutical Science
About this course
Pharmaceutical science is the study of drugs: how they are discovered, designed, tested, manufactured, and ultimately used to treat or prevent disease. It draws on chemistry, biology, pharmacology, and the physical sciences to understand how therapeutic molecules interact with biological systems and how those interactions can be harnessed to produce safe and effective medicines. The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries are among the most knowledge-intensive and globally significant sectors in the economy, and the graduates they recruit need a strong interdisciplinary scientific foundation. At the University of Lincoln, this four-year full-time programme introduces you to drug discovery, development, formulation, and management in a way that is explicitly oriented towards real-world pharmaceutical practice. You will develop skills across the breadth of pharmaceutical science, from organic synthesis and analytical chemistry to pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, and the regulatory frameworks that govern drug approval. A sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities are all built into the programme, giving you substantial professional and international experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology settings before you graduate. The typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects the accessible character of the programme. You will develop the scientific knowledge, laboratory skills, and applied understanding of pharmaceutical development that employers in the sector value, alongside the professional awareness that comes from spending time in a real pharmaceutical environment. Graduates pursue careers in drug discovery, formulation science, clinical trials, pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and healthcare settings. Postgraduate study in pharmaceutical science, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, or clinical pharmacy is a natural route for those seeking specialist research or clinical roles.
