About this course

Adult nursing is one of the most demanding and rewarding careers in public life. Nurses working with adult patients are responsible for assessing health needs, planning and delivering care, administering treatments, monitoring recovery and supporting patients and their families through illness, injury and end-of-life care. It is a profession that requires scientific knowledge, clinical skill, emotional intelligence and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. The NHS depends on adult nurses in virtually every clinical setting, and the profession is consistently one of the UK's most valued. At Chester, this four-year programme includes a year abroad as well as the academic and clinical content needed to register as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The programme begins with a foundation year, which provides essential scientific and professional preparation for students who are entering without the full standard entry requirements. Following the foundation year, you will progress through the full nursing programme, which combines university-based teaching with substantial clinical placements in hospitals, community settings, care homes and other healthcare environments. You will study anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing theory, evidence-based practice, mental health awareness, long-term conditions, and the ethical and legal dimensions of nursing care. The typical entry tariff is 72 UCAS points. Registered adult nurses work across NHS acute trusts, community nursing teams, mental health services, care homes, GP practices, occupational health, the armed forces, private healthcare, and international health systems. The year abroad opportunity in this programme allows you to experience nursing in a different health system, broadening your professional perspective. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study or specialist clinical roles, and there are clear progression routes into advanced practice, nursing leadership and nurse education.
