BA Accounting
About this course
Accounting is the discipline that provides the language, systems, and frameworks through which organisations measure, report, and manage their financial performance. At its broadest it encompasses financial accounting, which produces the reports that inform shareholders, lenders, and regulators; management accounting, which supports internal decision-making; auditing, which assures the reliability of financial information; taxation, which governs how individuals and organisations meet their obligations to the public purse; and sustainability accounting, which is reshaping how organisations account for their environmental and social impact. At Strathclyde you will study this four-year full-time BA programme, which provides a comprehensive grounding in all the key areas of accounting that shape professional practice. The curriculum covers financial and management accounting, auditing, taxation, and the emerging area of sustainability accounting, ensuring you develop both the technical expertise and the broader understanding of accounting's role in society that today's profession requires. A year abroad is available within the degree, giving you the opportunity to study in a different business and regulatory environment and to develop an international perspective on accounting practice. The typical entry tariff of 232 points reflects the programme's competitive standing. Accounting graduates from Strathclyde are well positioned for careers in professional accountancy, with many pursuing qualifications with bodies such as ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, or CIMA alongside their early careers in public practice or industry finance functions. Others move into management accounting roles in industry, financial analysis, audit, tax advisory, or corporate finance. The sustainability accounting dimension is increasingly important as organisations face growing expectations around reporting on environmental and social impact. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or business, and Strathclyde's strong business school provides good pathways for those who wish to do so.
