BSc Accounting and Finance with Placement Year
About this course
Accounting and finance is one of the most professionally oriented degree combinations available, giving you both the conceptual framework for understanding financial information and the analytical tools for working with it in real business and organisational contexts. Accounting is concerned with measuring, recording, reporting and auditing financial performance. Finance examines how capital is raised, invested and managed, and how financial markets and institutions function. Together they prepare you for careers at the heart of commercial and public sector financial life. At the University of Warwick this four-year full-time programme is a professionally oriented qualification that includes a placement year, during which you will spend time in industry applying your studies in a real commercial context. You will study key financial factors affecting multinational companies alongside core areas of accounting and finance, developing both technical competence and the broader commercial awareness that makes graduates effective in professional roles. The programme also offers the possibility of studying abroad, adding an international dimension to your experience. Particular combinations of modules can lead to exemptions from a number of professional accountancy examinations, which can accelerate the route to qualification for those who go on to pursue chartered status. Warwick's accounting and finance programmes have a strong reputation with employers, and the combination of academic rigour, professional orientation and placement experience makes graduates well positioned in the competitive graduate market. Graduates typically move into professional services, investment banking, corporate finance, management consultancy, accountancy firms and financial analysis roles. Many progress to professional qualification with bodies such as ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA. Postgraduate study in finance, accounting, economics or management is also a common pathway.
