BSc Accounting and Finance
About this course
Accounting and Finance is a degree that combines two of the most fundamental disciplines in commercial and organisational life, developing the technical precision of accounting practice alongside the analytical frameworks of financial management and investment. Accounting is the system by which organisations record, classify, report and audit their financial activity, providing the information base on which sound decisions depend. Finance applies that information to the analysis of capital allocation, investment, risk and value, asking how organisations can use their resources most effectively and how financial markets price and distribute risk. At Queen Mary University of London, this three-year full-time programme is based in a campus fifteen minutes from the City and Canary Wharf, placing you at the heart of the UK's financial services industry. You will study financial and management accounting, corporate finance, investment management, financial mathematics, taxation, and the legal and ethical frameworks that govern both professions. The London location is not incidental: the proximity to major employers in investment banking, asset management, accounting, and professional services shapes the curriculum and the opportunities available to you as a student. Graduates of Accounting and Finance programmes are highly regarded by employers across financial services, corporate finance, management consulting, accounting practice, and the public sector. Many pursue professional qualification with bodies such as ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, or CFA after graduation, building on the academic foundation the degree provides. Others go directly into analyst, associate, or accountant roles in investment banks, asset managers, Big Four and mid-tier accounting firms, or industry finance teams. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or business is also available for those who want to deepen their specialism or pursue research.
