BSc Accounting and Finance
About this course
Accounting and finance provide the analytical foundation for understanding how organisations manage money and how capital is allocated across the economy. Accounting covers the principles and practices of recording, reporting, and interpreting financial information, including financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, and taxation. Finance takes a broader view of how firms, investors, and financial institutions make decisions about investment, risk, and the valuation of assets. Together they form a rigorous curriculum that prepares graduates for careers across the financial services sector and in business more broadly. At Cardiff University, this three-year full-time programme is delivered within Cardiff Business School, one of the UK's leading business schools and one of a small number worldwide to hold triple accreditation. Cardiff is well placed geographically, with proximity to the financial services sector in Cardiff itself as well as connections to London, and the business school has established relationships with major employers that support placement and graduate recruitment. Across the programme you will study financial accounting, management accounting, corporate finance, investment theory, taxation, auditing, and the quantitative and economic methods that underpin financial analysis. Cardiff Business School's research strengths mean that the teaching is connected to current scholarship, particularly in areas such as accounting regulation, public sector finance, and financial markets. Graduates of accounting and finance degrees at Cardiff are well prepared for entry into professional accountancy training, typically pursuing qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA in conjunction with a role at an accounting firm or in industry. Others move into graduate roles in investment banking, corporate finance, asset management, financial analysis, and audit. The degree also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in finance, financial economics, or specialist accounting subjects.
