BSc Accounting and Business
About this course
Accounting and Business is a combination that reflects how finance and commercial management work in practice: financial knowledge does not exist in a vacuum but is always deployed within the context of how businesses are organised, how strategy is formed and how decisions are made. Accounting gives you the tools to measure, report and analyse financial performance, to manage compliance and to communicate financial information to the range of stakeholders who depend on it. Business education gives you the broader context, including strategy, marketing, operations and organisational behaviour, that shapes the decisions accountants support and advise. At the University of Exeter this three-year full-time degree is structured to align with the world-leading ACCA professional qualification, and the programme is ACCA accredited. Depending on the modules you take, you may be eligible for up to nine ACCA paper exemptions, giving you a significantly accelerated route to professional qualification. You will develop knowledge across the core areas of accounting and finance alongside a range of business modules, building both the technical competence and commercial awareness that employers in finance and professional services look for. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you substantial opportunity to develop professional and international experience. Graduates from Accounting and Business degrees are highly sought after across a wide range of sectors. Many go on to professional training in accounting, qualifying as chartered accountants with major firms or in industry. Others find roles in financial management, corporate finance, investment analysis, management consultancy and business development. The ACCA alignment means graduates are well positioned to continue towards a globally recognised professional qualification. For those wishing to continue their studies, the degree also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate work in accounting, finance or business administration.
