BSc Accountancy and Finance
About this course
Accountancy and finance sit at the core of how organisations understand and manage their financial health, and how capital markets allocate resources across the economy. Accountancy develops the skills to measure, record and report financial information in ways that support decision-making, regulatory compliance and transparent reporting to investors and stakeholders. Finance applies analytical and quantitative methods to investment decisions, risk management, the valuation of assets and businesses, and the operation of financial markets and institutions. Together, they provide the rigorous financial education that a wide range of professional careers in business, banking and public life requires. At Southampton Solent University, this three-year full-time degree, which is available with a foundation year and is professionally accredited, develops your knowledge of financial and management accounting, corporate finance, taxation, financial regulation and reporting, and the international dimensions of financial practice. The foundation year is available for students who will benefit from additional preparation before degree-level study. The programme is structured around the standards of major professional accounting bodies, and accreditation may provide exemptions from some of the examinations required for professional qualification, reducing the time and cost of qualifying after graduation. A sandwich year placement and a work placement are also built into the programme, giving you real-world experience in an accounting or finance environment. You will develop numerical precision, analytical rigour and the ability to communicate financial information clearly, alongside the commercial awareness that professional accountancy and finance roles demand. Graduates move into chartered accountancy, audit, management accounting, corporate finance, taxation, financial management, banking, insurance, and commercial roles. Professional qualification with bodies such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW or CISI is the standard post-graduation pathway, and postgraduate study in finance, accounting or business is an option for those who want to specialise further or pursue academic careers.
