The role
What a social services manager actually does, day to day.
As a social services manager or director, you run a team of social workers and support staff who help people and families going through tough times. You decide what services your area needs, hire and train your team, and make sure everyone is doing good work. You also check that money is spent well and that everyone is following the rules.
Your day involves meetings with your team, visiting the people you help, talking to hospitals and schools, and writing reports for the council. It can be emotionally hard because you hear about people's struggles. You need to stay calm and fair when things go wrong, and celebrate wins when families get back on their feet. The pay is decent, and the job gives you real power to change people's lives for the better.
