The role
What a road traffic and transport safety officers actually does, day to day.
As a road traffic and transport safety officer, you help stop accidents from happening and protect people on the roads. It's serious work - road accidents cause injury and death - but your job is to prevent that. You look at where accidents happen most, work out why, and suggest changes that save lives.
You might spend time on the road checking for hazards, then at a desk analyzing data about accidents. You write reports that explain your findings to councils and the police. You also help design safety campaigns to teach people - drivers, cyclists and pedestrians - how to stay safe. It's a mix of fieldwork and office work, and you'll need to work with police, councils and community groups to make roads better.
