Driving Examiners

AI

Driving examiners test people who want to get their driving licence. They make sure drivers have the skills and knowledge to drive safely on the road, which keeps everyone safer.

The role

What a driving examiners actually does, day to day.

As a driving examiner, you test people who are learning to drive. You watch them do different driving tasks - parking, handling busy roads, following traffic laws - and decide if they are ready for their licence. You need to stay calm and fair, even if a candidate is nervous.

Most of your day you will be sitting in cars, watching people drive and making notes about what they do well and where they need to improve. You give feedback so they understand what happened in the test. You also keep careful records and follow the rules set by the DVLA to make sure every test is done the same way. The job can be repetitive, but you meet lots of different people.
