Bookmaker

AI

Bookmakers set the odds for sports bets. They use maths and data about sports teams and players to work out fair odds, and they manage the money so their business stays profitable.

The role

What a bookmaker actually does, day to day.

As a Bookmaker, you work in the sports betting industry, setting and adjusting betting odds based on data about teams, players and sporting events. You need to understand statistics and maths well, and be able to react fast when things change during a game. You monitor live events, watch how betting patterns change, and adjust the odds to keep the business running smoothly.

You also work with customers, answering their questions and helping them understand the bets they are making. It is important to make sure people bet responsibly - the job includes spotting customers who might have a problem with gambling and making sure they get support. You work within strict rules set by the government to protect people and keep the industry honest. The role needs good maths skills, quick thinking and customer service experience.
