Admissions Officer

AI

Admissions officers review applications to schools and universities, work out which students would be a good fit, and help choose the next generation of pupils and students. They read personal statements, interview candidates and represent the school.

The role

What an admissions officer actually does, day to day.

As an admissions officer, you read applications from students who want to join your school or university. You look at their grades, test scores, personal statements and references - everything that shows who they are and what they can do. You will probably conduct interviews too, which gives you a chance to meet applicants face-to-face and understand what they really want from their education.

Your job is to find students who will thrive at your institution - not just the ones with the best grades, but people with promise, personality and the right fit. You will work with teachers and leaders to help shape admissions policy, go out to events to talk to students and families about your school, and keep careful records of everyone who applies. It takes good judgement and patience to get this right, but it is deeply rewarding to help young people find the right place and to know you have helped shape the future intake of your school.
