About this course

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most versatile of the engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis and manufacture of mechanical systems, from individual components and machines to large-scale industrial and energy systems. It applies principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and materials science to develop everything from consumer products and medical devices to aerospace components and renewable energy infrastructure. Mechanical engineers are involved at every stage of a product or system's life, from initial concept to manufacture, testing and eventual decommissioning.

At the University of Bradford the programme runs over five years full time and begins with an integrated foundation year, which builds the mathematical and scientific foundations you need before the main degree. The full course gives you a thorough grounding in core mechanical engineering principles alongside increasing specialisation as you progress. A sandwich year in industry and a year abroad are built into the programme, as are work placement opportunities, meaning you can graduate with substantial professional and international experience alongside your engineering qualification.
