BA Tourism Management
About this course
Tourism management is a discipline that addresses one of the world's largest and most complex industries, one that intersects hospitality, culture, environment, economics, and diplomacy in ways that are both commercially and socially significant. Managing tourism well means understanding how people decide to travel and what they value when they do, how destinations market themselves and manage visitor impacts, and how the industry can meet the challenge of becoming more sustainable and equitable in a world increasingly aware of its environmental and social footprint. At the University of Westminster, this BA explores tourism's role in the global community, emphasising sustainable development and ethical leadership. As the industry evolves to meet emerging challenges, you will develop the skills to become an innovative and resilient leader in it. The programme covers destination management, consumer behaviour, digital marketing, events management, the economics of tourism, and the policy frameworks that shape how the industry operates. It includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and a work placement, providing substantial professional and international experience within the three-year full-time degree. Graduates of tourism management programmes pursue careers in destination management organisations, travel companies, hotels, airlines, event management, tourism consultancy, and international development. The global scope of the degree opens roles in organisations working on sustainable tourism, cultural heritage, and community-based tourism projects. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in tourism, hospitality management, or sustainable development, or move into related commercial and communications roles where their customer insight and international awareness are valued.
