Theology and religious studies combined with politics is an intellectually rich pairing that has deep practical relevance. Religion has been and remains one of the most powerful forces shaping political life around the world, from the role of the Catholic Church in Latin American politics and the influence of Islam on governance across the Middle East and beyond, to the relationship between faith communities and the state in liberal democracies. Understanding religion seriously, not just as an object of sociological observation but on its own terms, is essential for anyone who wants to engage with political life in its full complexity. At the University of Glasgow, this part-time degree allows you to pursue both disciplines alongside other commitments. Theology and religious studies at Glasgow encompasses the study of religion in its many forms, examining the Bible, theology, the history and practice of world religions, and the relationship of religious belief to politics, history, literature, philosophy, and culture. The politics component develops your analytical frameworks for understanding power, governance, democracy, and international relations.
