About this course

Systems engineering is the discipline that deals with the design, integration, and management of complex engineering systems, ones in which the interactions between components are as important as the components themselves. Modern aircraft, healthcare technologies, telecommunications networks, automated vehicles, and defence platforms are all systems engineering problems: no single engineering discipline is sufficient to understand or design them, and you need to be able to work at the boundaries where mechanical, electrical, software, and human factors all intersect. Systems engineers are the people who hold the whole picture together. At the University of Warwick, this four-year full-time MEng degree develops your understanding of engineering principles drawn from across multiple disciplines alongside the systems-level thinking that allows you to work on genuinely complex problems. You will study how different engineering domains interact, how systems are specified, modelled, tested, and managed through their lifecycle, and how to bring rigour and creativity to problems where the requirements are often contradictory and the constraints are always real. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad option, and a work placement, giving you substantial opportunities to apply your engineering knowledge in professional and international settings and to develop the kind of holistic perspective that senior engineers and engineering managers need. Systems engineering graduates are highly sought after across a wide range of sectors. Aerospace and defence, automotive, energy systems, telecommunications, healthcare technology, and large-scale infrastructure projects all employ systems engineers in significant numbers. Roles in systems design, integration, verification, programme management, and technical leadership are all accessible with this qualification. Warwick's strong industry connections and the programme's emphasis on real-world problem-solving mean that many graduates move directly into challenging and well-regarded roles after graduation. The typical entry tariff is 152 points.
