BA Sports Business and Entrepreneurship
About this course
The sports industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the global economy, spanning professional clubs and leagues, sports media and broadcasting, event management, sponsorship and marketing, facility management, fitness and wellness, and the growing field of sports technology. Sports Business and Entrepreneurship prepares you to understand and work within this world, combining commercial skills with the practical mindset and risk-taking orientation that entrepreneurship requires. At the University of the West of England in Bristol you will study the business of sport alongside developing real entrepreneurial experience. The programme covers sports marketing, event management, commercial strategy, finance, consumer behaviour, sponsorship, and the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern sport as a commercial activity. The entrepreneurship strand goes beyond theory, encouraging you to develop your own ideas, understand how new ventures are built, and learn from working on actual business challenges during your studies. You will engage with the sports industry directly through practical projects and develop an understanding of how sport organisations are managed and how they generate value for clubs, athletes, fans, and sponsors. Graduates go on to careers in sports management, event organising, sports marketing and sponsorship, media, facility and venue management, sports technology start-ups, and business development roles within sporting organisations. The entrepreneurial skills the degree develops are also applicable in any context where initiative, creativity, and commercial thinking are needed. Those who wish to continue their studies can progress to postgraduate programmes in sports business, sports marketing, or general management.
