BSc Sport Rehabilitation
About this course
Sport rehabilitation is the clinical discipline concerned with the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions arising in sport and exercise contexts, helping athletes and active individuals recover from injury and return to optimal physical function. Sport rehabilitators work alongside physiotherapists, sports medicine doctors and strength and conditioning coaches to manage the full rehabilitation journey from acute injury through return to sport, applying knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology and clinical assessment to design and deliver effective treatment and exercise programmes. At the University of Nottingham this three-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year for those who would benefit from additional scientific preparation before the main degree content begins. You will study the anatomical and physiological foundations of musculoskeletal health and injury, clinical assessment techniques, exercise prescription, soft tissue therapy, taping and bracing, injury prevention and the psychological dimensions of rehabilitation. The programme includes substantial clinical placement experience, giving you direct supervised practice in sports medicine, physiotherapy and rehabilitation settings before graduation. Graduates of sport rehabilitation programmes work as sport rehabilitators in professional sport, sports medicine clinics, university sports services, community sport and leisure facilities, and the armed forces, as well as in roles within physiotherapy and sports medicine departments and multidisciplinary health teams. The Sport and Exercise Medicine field is growing, and sport rehabilitation provides a strong foundation for roles across elite and recreational sport settings. Some graduates continue to postgraduate study or seek further professional qualification in physiotherapy, sports medicine or strength and conditioning, building on the undergraduate clinical foundation.
