BSc Sport and Exercise Therapy
About this course
Sport and exercise therapy is a dynamic field concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions in sports and physically active populations. Therapists in this field work alongside physiotherapists, sports medicine doctors, and sports scientists in professional sports clubs, elite performance environments, and clinical settings, as well as in private practice and community health. They assess injuries, design and implement rehabilitation programmes, provide pitch-side care, and support athletes in returning safely and effectively to training and competition. At the University of Lincoln, this part-time programme allows you to study sport and exercise therapy at a pace suited to your circumstances, making it accessible to those who are combining study with work or other commitments. You will develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, injury assessment and management, rehabilitation science, and the clinical reasoning skills that effective therapy requires. A year abroad option is available, giving you the chance to encounter sport and exercise therapy practice in a different national context and to broaden your professional perspective. The field is increasingly important in musculoskeletal healthcare more broadly, and the skills sport and exercise therapists develop are valued across professional and grassroots sport, private clinical practice, occupational health, and community exercise settings. Graduates typically work in sports clubs, physiotherapy clinics, gyms, hospitals, and educational settings, and many build portfolio careers combining several of these environments. Many also pursue further professional training or postgraduate study to extend their scope of practice or to move into more specialised clinical or academic roles.
