BSc Sport and Exercise Science
About this course
Sport and exercise science is the multidisciplinary study of human physical performance, combining physiology, biomechanics, and psychology to understand how the body moves, adapts, and responds to the demands of sport and exercise. It applies rigorous scientific methods to questions about training, nutrition, recovery, and the psychological factors that influence performance, and increasingly extends into public health contexts where the same understanding can inform the design of exercise interventions for the prevention and management of chronic disease. The three-year full-time Sport and Exercise Science programme at Aberystwyth University draws on the expertise of sport and exercise scientists who have worked with a range of organisations, teams, and individual athletes, from recreational participants to those who have competed successfully at European and world championship level. Under their guidance, you will develop your own practical skills in dedicated sport and exercise laboratories, applying theoretical knowledge to practical measurement and analysis. You will study the physiological responses to exercise, the mechanical principles governing movement, and the psychological dimensions of sporting performance, building the analytical skills to evaluate evidence and apply it in both sport and health contexts. With a typical entry tariff of 120 points, the programme is accessible to students who combine scientific aptitude with a genuine interest in physical performance. Graduates pursue careers in performance analysis, strength and conditioning, sport and exercise physiology, coaching, health promotion, public health, and fitness and wellbeing roles. Many also go on to postgraduate study in sport science, exercise physiology, physiotherapy, or related health disciplines.
