BSc Sport and Exercise Science
About this course
Sport and exercise science is a discipline that asks some of the most compelling questions in applied science: What makes an athlete faster, stronger, and more resilient? Why does one training programme work for some, while others plateau? How can exercise prevent disease, extend life, and transform wellbeing? On this degree, endorsed by the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, you will explore the science that drives human performance and protects health. Blending behavioural, physical, and life sciences, this practice-driven course equips you with the knowledge, laboratory expertise, and critical thinking skills to make an impact, from elite sport to public health. At Leeds Beckett University, this part-time programme allows you to develop a rigorous scientific understanding of sport and exercise alongside existing professional or personal commitments. You will study physiology, biomechanics, psychology of sport and exercise, strength and conditioning, research methods, and the applied sciences that translate laboratory knowledge into real-world performance and health outcomes. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placements, giving you direct professional experience in sport science support, health promotion, or a related setting and an international perspective on sport and exercise science practice. Graduates pursue careers as sport and exercise scientists, performance analysts, strength and conditioning coaches, fitness specialists, health promotion practitioners, and applied researchers in sport medicine, public health, and rehabilitation. The part-time mode and CASES endorsement make the degree particularly suitable for those already working in sport, health, or fitness who want to develop the scientific foundation to advance their professional practice. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in sport science, physiology, sports medicine, or public health.
