BA Social Care and Sport & Physical Education
About this course
Social care and sport and physical education is a combination that reflects two complementary commitments: the wellbeing of individuals and communities, and the role that physical activity and sport can play in that wellbeing. Social care examines the structures, values, and practices of care in society, considering how inequalities, disadvantage, and social conditions create needs and how services should respond to them with sensitivity and creativity. Sport and physical education brings a focus on the physical dimension of health and flourishing, asking how sport and active living can be promoted, taught, and made accessible to people across different stages of life and social circumstances. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme develops graduates who understand the root causes of social inequalities that lead to care needs, and who are equipped to shape services that respond to people's actual circumstances rather than treating need in isolation from its context. You will study social policy, the sociology of health and sport, pedagogy, coaching and physical education, and the practical dimensions of care work. The programme includes a sandwich year in industry and a year abroad, as well as work placements, giving you direct experience in professional settings across social care, sport, and education, and the opportunity to develop your practice in an international context. With a typical entry tariff of 120 UCAS points, this degree is designed for students who are motivated by genuine concern for people's wellbeing and interested in the social dimensions of sport and physical activity. Graduates find careers in social care management, sport development, physical education, community sport, disability sport, youth work, health promotion, and the growing area of social prescribing, where sport and physical activity are used as therapeutic interventions. Some go on to postgraduate study in social work, public health, sport science, or education, and some pursue teaching qualifications that build on their undergraduate experience.
