BSc Psychology with Neuroscience with Foundation Year
About this course
Psychology with neuroscience is a degree for those who want to understand not just what people do and think, but why, at the level of the brain and nervous system. Psychology provides the scientific framework for studying behaviour, cognition, emotion, and development, drawing on research conducted at the behavioural and social levels. Neuroscience complements this with a biological and physiological perspective, asking how the brain controls movement, sensation, emotion, and thought, and how the nervous system is organised and functions at the cellular and molecular level. Together, they give you an unusually complete picture of the mind and how it works. At Keele University, this four-year full-time degree with foundation year is designed for students with a fascination for human behaviour and the biology that underlies it. The foundation year provides the academic preparation you need before moving into the core psychology and neuroscience curriculum. You will develop a broad understanding of the mind and behaviour, covering developmental psychology, social psychology, cognition, abnormal psychology, and the neuroscientific methods and findings that illuminate each area. You will learn to apply your knowledge to real-world situations and develop the research skills in both behavioural and biological methods that careers in biosciences, human health, and research require. The programme prepares you for diverse career paths and for further study in psychology, neuroscience, or the health sciences. You will develop both the conceptual understanding and the practical research competencies that define rigorous work in psychology and neuroscience. Graduates go on to careers in healthcare, research, education, human resources, and a range of applied fields where understanding human behaviour and the brain matters. Many pursue postgraduate training in clinical, educational, or forensic psychology, or continue to doctoral research in psychology or neuroscience. The combination of psychological and neuroscientific training is particularly well suited to careers in the life sciences, mental health, and cognitive science.
