BSc Psychology With Clinical And Health Psychology
About this course
Clinical and health psychology focuses the tools of psychological science on questions of physical and mental health: why some people become ill and others do not, how illness is experienced and communicated, how psychological interventions can improve wellbeing and health outcomes, and how health services should be designed to meet the psychological needs of patients and the public. It is a discipline with direct human relevance, combining empirical rigour with genuine concern for how people live when their health is compromised. At Bangor, this psychology programme incorporates a clinical and health psychology focus, developing your understanding of both foundational psychological science and its application to health and clinical contexts. You will study the major theories of health behaviour, the psychology of chronic and acute illness, psychopathology, therapeutic approaches, and the research methods needed to evaluate evidence in health psychology. The programme includes a foundation year for those who benefit from additional academic preparation, a sandwich placement year and year abroad for those who want extended professional and international experience, and embedded work placements. A typical direct-entry tariff of 104 points applies. Graduates of psychology programmes with a clinical and health focus are well placed for careers in healthcare settings, including roles as assistant psychologists, psychological wellbeing practitioners, research assistants in clinical trials, and health promotion specialists. The degree provides the necessary undergraduate foundation for postgraduate training in clinical, health, or counselling psychology. Many graduates also move into roles in social care, education, human resources, and public health, where psychological knowledge and research skills are consistently valued.
