About this course

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour, addressing questions that range from the neural mechanisms underlying perception to the social forces that shape how people act in groups. It is a discipline that is still discovering the answers to fundamental questions about consciousness, emotion, development, and the causes of mental illness, and studying it means engaging with a field that is actively evolving rather than settled. At the same time, psychology develops concrete and transferable skills in research, data analysis, and evidence-based reasoning that are valued across many careers. At Brunel University London, this three-year full-time degree gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in both the established theories of psychology and the latest research that is expanding our knowledge. You will have access to extensive laboratory and technical facilities including brain imaging equipment, allowing you to engage with psychology at the level of neuroscience as well as behaviour and cognition. You will study cognitive, developmental, social, biological, and clinical psychology, building a comprehensive understanding of the discipline alongside the research methods skills needed to conduct and evaluate psychological research. A typical entry tariff of 104 points applies. You will develop skills in experimental design, statistical analysis, critical thinking, scientific writing, and the ability to apply psychological knowledge to real-world contexts. These capabilities are transferable across a wide range of professional settings, from healthcare and education to business and public policy. Graduates from psychology programmes pursue careers in mental health services, education, human resources, research, marketing, the civil service, social work, and a wide range of other fields. Many continue to further study or professional training, as careers in clinical, counselling, educational, occupational, and forensic psychology all require postgraduate qualifications beyond the undergraduate degree.
