MPhysio Physiotherapy
About this course
Physiotherapy is one of the health professions most directly concerned with restoring and maintaining physical function, helping people recover from injury, illness, and disability through evidence-based assessment and therapeutic intervention. Physiotherapists work across a wide range of clinical contexts, from acute hospital wards and rehabilitation units to community settings, sports environments, and long-term care. The discipline requires both a deep scientific understanding of the musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiorespiratory systems and the clinical reasoning and interpersonal skills to apply that knowledge with individual patients. At the University of St Mark and St John, this programme is offered as an integrated masters degree running over four years on a full-time basis, providing a pre-registration qualification for undergraduate entry. You will explore anatomy, physiology, and the sociological dimensions of physiotherapy, building a comprehensive understanding of how the body works and how illness, injury, and social factors interact to affect a person's health and independence. Alongside academic study, you will build the hands-on clinical skills and professional competence required to practise as a qualified physiotherapist, with supervised placements in real healthcare settings forming an integral part of the programme. The degree is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, ensuring that graduates are eligible for registration and professional practice. Graduates qualify to work as registered physiotherapists in the NHS, private healthcare, sports and exercise medicine, occupational health, and international settings. The broad clinical training also prepares graduates for specialist postgraduate study in areas such as musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological rehabilitation, and paediatric physiotherapy, as well as for roles in clinical research and teaching.
