BSc Physics with French
About this course
Physics with French is a combination that reflects the genuinely international nature of scientific research. Physics, the study of how the universe works from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest structures of space and time, is a discipline pursued collaboratively across national borders, with major research projects and experiments involving scientists from many countries working in multiple languages. French, as the language of one of Europe's leading scientific nations and a medium of international scientific communication, gives you access to that collaborative world in a way that a physics degree alone cannot. At Queen's University Belfast this four-year full-time programme includes a year studying abroad, developing your French language skills in an immersive setting while continuing to engage with physics in an international context. You will study the core areas of modern physics, including quantum theory, relativity, particle physics, electromagnetism, and condensed matter, developing both the theoretical understanding and the mathematical and experimental skills that characterise professional physicists. The programme draws on Queen's strength in physics research, and the year abroad enriches your scientific education with a different academic tradition and cultural perspective. Physics graduates are among the most versatile in the job market. Careers in research, data science, finance, engineering, computing, healthcare technology, and many other fields are open to graduates who can think quantitatively and handle complex analytical problems. The addition of French opens further doors in international research organisations, European scientific institutions, and any profession where working across language boundaries is an advantage. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in physics, applied mathematics, or a related discipline, often within international research collaborations.
