About this course

Pharmacy is the healthcare profession concerned with the safe, effective, and rational use of medicines. Pharmacists are medicines experts: they advise patients on how to use their medications safely, counsel prescribers on drug choice and dose, detect and manage drug interactions and adverse effects, and increasingly take on direct clinical roles in the management of long-term conditions. The profession is evolving rapidly, with pharmacists now working in general practice, hospital wards, public health, and community settings with greater clinical responsibility than at any point in the profession's history. At the University of Suffolk, this four-year full-time programme represents a new and bold pharmacy education, designed to prepare the next generation of pharmacists for the challenges and opportunities of modern healthcare. You will study pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, microbiology, and the clinical management of disease alongside the professional practice skills of consultation, counselling, and prescribing. The integration of clinical and scientific knowledge is central to modern pharmacy education, and you will develop the ability to reason about how drugs work, how they are used, and how their use affects patients in real clinical contexts. The programme is designed to place you at the forefront of pharmacy practice in its evolving form. Graduates from MPharm programmes must complete a foundation training year and pass the GPhC registration assessment before practising as pharmacists. Career paths include community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, general practice, pharmaceutical industry, clinical research, regulatory affairs, and academic pharmacy. Further study at postgraduate level is available in clinical pharmacy, pharmacy practice, and pharmaceutical sciences for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.
