MDiet Nutrition and Dietetics
About this course
Nutrition and dietetics is the application of nutritional science to the promotion of health and the prevention and treatment of disease, and dietitians are the qualified professionals who translate that science into the personalised dietary advice that helps patients and clients improve their health and manage specific conditions. Dietetics is a regulated healthcare profession, and qualifying as a dietitian requires completing an accredited programme that covers both the science and the clinical practice of nutritional intervention. At Robert Gordon University, this four-year integrated master's programme goes beyond the standard dietetics qualification, developing research skills, leadership capability, and service evaluation alongside the clinical foundations of the profession. You will study nutritional biochemistry, physiology, the pathology of diet-related conditions, and the evidence base for dietary interventions across different clinical and public health contexts. The programme's research orientation prepares you not just to follow established protocols but to critically evaluate evidence and contribute to the development of dietetic practice in a changing healthcare landscape. Practice placements are an essential part of the programme, giving you supervised clinical experience with patients in NHS and community settings. Qualification from this programme leads to eligibility for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a dietitian, enabling you to practise across the NHS and in private and community settings. Dietitians work with patients managing diabetes, obesity, renal disease, gastrointestinal conditions, cancer, and many other conditions where diet plays a therapeutic role. With experience, many move into specialist clinical roles, community public health, research, academia, and leadership within NHS dietetic services. The integrated master's pathway at RGU prepares graduates not just for practice but for the evolving demands of the profession.
