BNurs Nursing (Adult)
About this course
Adult nursing is the branch of nursing responsible for the care of patients from young adulthood through old age across the full spectrum of health conditions and clinical settings. It is a role that demands both substantial clinical knowledge and a deep capacity for empathy, communication, and professional judgement. Nurses form the largest professional group in the NHS and provide the sustained, patient-centred care that underpins good health outcomes, whether in acute hospitals, community settings, or long-term care. At the University of Keele, this three-year full-time programme prepares you to qualify as a competent and confident adult nurse. You will develop essential nursing knowledge across a curriculum that integrates theory with authentic clinical practice. Keele's nursing programme makes strong use of clinical simulation facilities, allowing you to practise skills and manage complex scenarios in a safe environment before applying them in real clinical placements. Your placements will take place in a range of settings, giving you broad exposure to the contexts in which adult nurses work and developing the professional adaptability that the role requires. On completing the programme and gaining Nursing and Midwifery Council registration, you will be qualified to practise as a Registered Nurse (Adult) in the NHS and private healthcare. Adult nurses work in acute hospital wards, outpatient departments, intensive and critical care, community nursing, care homes, and specialist clinical areas. The profession offers strong employment prospects and well-defined pathways for career development, including specialisation in areas such as oncology, cardiac care, or critical care nursing, as well as progression into management, education, or advanced clinical practice. Postgraduate study supports continued professional development throughout a nursing career.
