BA Music with Enterprise
About this course
Music with Enterprise is a degree designed for musicians who understand that building a sustainable career in the music industry requires not only artistic skill but also the commercial and entrepreneurial intelligence to navigate one of the most complex and rapidly changing creative sectors in the economy. Music education has long been excellent at developing performers, composers and musicologists, but the realities of professional music life, managing a portfolio career, building an audience, understanding rights and royalties, and creating and growing ventures within the creative economy, demand a different kind of preparation. This programme provides both. At the University of Leeds, this full-time three-year programme is delivered jointly by the School of Music and the Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Studies, combining rigorous musical study with structured entrepreneurship education in a way that is unique at undergraduate level in the UK. You will pursue your chosen musical interests across performance, composition, musicology or production while also developing the business acumen, strategic thinking and enterprise skills that the music industry demands. The programme includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside your studies. Graduates from Music with Enterprise programmes go on to careers across the music industry in performance, composition, music production, artist management, music publishing, arts administration, festival and event management, music education and music technology. The enterprise dimension of the degree also equips graduates for roles in the broader creative and cultural industries, and many go on to establish their own ventures. Further study in music, music business or arts management is available for those who wish to develop specialist expertise, and the combination of artistic and commercial training is increasingly recognised as the foundation for sustainable creative careers.
