About this course

Music at university level encompasses far more than performance: it is the study of how music is composed, how it has developed historically across different cultures and traditions, how it is theorised and analysed, and how it exists in relation to the social and cultural contexts that produce and consume it. A music degree develops your ear, your analytical capacity, your knowledge of musical traditions, and your understanding of how music works as a human and cultural phenomenon. At the University of the Highlands and Islands, this two-year full-time programme in music is delivered within UHI's distinctive distributed model of higher education, which gives students access to higher education across the Highlands, Islands, and the north of Scotland.
