BA Music Production
About this course
Music production is the craft of bringing recorded music to life: composing, arranging, recording, editing, mixing and mastering audio in ways that capture the artistic vision of a project and deliver it to an audience with clarity, power and impact. It is a discipline that sits at the intersection of creative artistry, technical expertise, and the evolving landscape of music consumption, from streaming and social media to live performance and sync licensing. The most effective music producers combine a musician's sensitivity to sound and arrangement with an engineer's precision and a creative director's vision. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time degree gives you access to the creative, technical and theoretical dimensions of music production in one of the UK's most musically significant cities. Liverpool's rich music history and its lively contemporary scene provide an inspiring and professionally connected context for learning about music production at every level. You will develop your skills in recording technology, digital audio workstations, sound design, mixing, mastering, music theory and the creative processes that underpin professional production work. The programme connects closely to Liverpool's music industry, giving you real opportunities to engage with the professional world during your studies. A sandwich year placement, a year abroad, and a work placement are all available, giving you significant professional and international experience that enriches your creative development and builds the networks that matter in this field. You will work on substantial production projects that develop your portfolio and your ability to deliver professional-quality audio work across a range of styles and contexts. Graduates move into music production, sound engineering, mixing and mastering, audio post-production, music technology education, sync and licensing, and roles in the music industry and broader creative industries. Many build portfolio careers that combine production, performance and other creative activities.
